These terms cover your use of nCompHunt, a native macOS and iOS app that finds and indexes public competitions. By installing or using the app you agree to them. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

The app is free

nCompHunt is free. There is no paid tier, no subscription, no in-app purchase, and no trial that expires. Nothing in the app is sold to you.

The source code is published under the MIT License at https://github.com/nhannht/ncomphunt. That license governs the code itself, and it is what permits you to read, modify, and redistribute it. These terms cover the app as distributed to you.

If you obtained nCompHunt from the Mac App Store or the App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies to that copy, and where it conflicts with these terms for an App Store copy, Apple's agreement governs.

No account, no server

nCompHunt has no accounts and no sign-in, and there is no developer-run back end behind it. The app runs on your device and fetches listings directly from the public sources you enable. What that means for your data is set out in the Privacy Policy.

Because there is no service to sign up for, there is nothing to suspend or terminate. You end these terms by deleting the app.

Contest information is not guaranteed

This is the important part, so it is stated plainly.

nCompHunt collects competition listings from public third-party sources. It does not run, host, sponsor, or endorse any competition it lists, and it has no relationship with the organizers.

• Dates, deadlines, prizes, eligibility rules, and registration links are reproduced from those sources and may be incomplete, out of date, or wrong.
• An organizer can change or cancel a competition at any time, with no obligation to update the source the app reads.
• A source can go offline, change its format, or stop publishing, and listings from it will then be missing or stale.
• Calendar entries and notifications the app creates are derived from the same information and carry the same uncertainty.

Verify anything that matters with the organizer before you rely on it. Do not treat a countdown in the menu bar as authoritative for a deadline you cannot afford to miss.

Third-party sites and services

The app links out to competition pages and organizer sites run by other people. Opening a link takes you to that site, where that site's own terms and privacy policy apply. nCompHunt has no control over those sites and is not responsible for their content.

Optional sources require an API key that you obtain yourself from the provider (clist.by, Brave Search, Google Programmable Search). Your use of those services is governed by the provider's own terms, and you are responsible for staying within them, including any rate limits or usage restrictions they impose.

Acceptable use

Use the app for its purpose: finding competitions to enter. Do not use it to place unreasonable load on the sources it reads, to circumvent a source's access controls or terms, or to break the law where you are.

No warranty

nCompHunt is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. This mirrors the disclaimer in the MIT License the source is published under.

There is no guarantee that the app will be available, that it will find every competition, that what it finds will be accurate, or that it will keep working after a future macOS, iOS, or third-party source change.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the author is not liable for any claim, damages, or other liability arising from the app or its use. That includes a missed deadline, a competition entered or not entered, or any loss of data, time, or opportunity.

Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion of certain warranties or the limitation of certain liabilities. Where that is the case, the exclusions and limitations above apply only to the extent permitted, and nothing here removes a right you have that cannot be waived.

Changes to these terms

These terms describe the version of nCompHunt named at the top. If a future release changes what the app does in a way these terms do not cover, they are updated and republished at this same location with a new effective date before that release ships. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the updated terms.
